The icu or icm (in the USA) is a sophisticated safety aid for fire fighters. It is part of the breathing apparatus and switches on an 'automatic man down' alarm when the air is turned on. It also provides additional information to the fire-fighter such as temperature, time remaining (based on actual breathing rates) as well as data logging all pressures, temperatures and alarms for later uploading via infra red link to a pc.
- The temperature of the sensor unit (thermistor) measures heat in a time-weighted average
- It has been designed for maximum reliability and durability with the use of a new solid state accelerometer to detect the movement of a firefighter
- Provides the user with a digital alarm display: Battery status, cylinder pressure, heat and service time remaining
- Transmits 1-1/4 increment of status, Pass pre-alarm pressure, warnings and battery status to the receiving HUD although a digitally encoded radio signal at short distance
- Modular and easy to maintain with a unique process connection for self contained breathing apparatus
